Finasteride helps to decrease DHT production
If you are a middle aged man, then you probably know that there are medical problems that you need to be aware of more when you enter that stage of your life. There are also changes in your physical appearance that take place. Two things that are commonly associated with aging men are hair loss and prostate-related problems. Both of these issues have a lot to do with the DHT hormone and its increased production once you enter this age bracket.
One common consequence of increased DHT levels in middle aged men is an enlarged prostate gland. This is a medical problem that needs to be remedied, and if you notice symptoms of an enlarged prostate, you need to go see a doctor immediately. If you have an enlarged prostate, then you are probably having a hard time urinating. Either you simply cannot get the urine to come out, or you are feeling a painful or burning sensation when you urinate. There are also cases in which dripping occurs even when you are not going to the bathroom. These problems all point to an enlarged prostate.
Another thing that DHT levels increasing is responsible for is hair loss. Finasteride is a drug that is taken by men to remedy both of these problems. Finasteride will help to decrease the DHT levels in your body, which should be able to decrease the size of your prostate gland and, theoretically, stop your hair from falling out. However, it is more successful doing one thing than the other.
Finasteride is effective in treating enlarged prostates, but there really is no perfect solution for hair loss yet. According to most studies, Finasteride will help men stop losing their hair in only about 50 percent of cases. That means that one in every two men who uses Finasteride will report positive results, while the other will not see any progress at all.
However, you should also know that even if Finasteride does end up working for you and you stop losing your hair, it is still a very slow process. You really have to be patient if you want Finasteride to work for you. If Finasteride does work, it still needs at least three months to start showing its results. Some people do not see any progress until they use Finasteride for over six months.
If you are one of those people for whom it does not work, then you will not see any changes even after a year of use. If you do try taking Finasteride to stop your hair loss and you do not see any positive changes after a year of using it, then the best thing to do is to stop using it, because Finasteride is not going to work for you.
In any regard, you need to see a doctor first and check to see if using Finasteride is right for you, because there are a lot of possible small side effects and allergic reactions that are possible, which can be avoided if your doctor tells you that you are cleared to use Finasteride and he or she follows your progress after giving you a prescription for the drug.
